Jane seemed to have a big anger problem, which ultimately led to her downfall. Or, I’d just chill out, wait for them to get kind of ahead, then go on my killing rampage. Since points affect your overall score and who wins – I’d just go to a town and start mowing people down rather than wasting time on my competitors.

For example, early on, they all start fighting for a lead and hitting each others cars. I think I could have won this race, because sometimes the racers were idiots. Part 2 – In Depth Spoiler Ridden Review/Synopsis This was one of my issues with the movie. We really just got a one-sided look at this “rebellion” so we had to be team rebellion. Like why the game came to be, more about the scoring system, what the public feels about it overall. I would have rather they just NOT had it at all and focused more on the race and the game. The plot is very basic – they try to add in a basic plot line about a rebellion against the current president, that is under-developed.

The movie has a number of great moments like that. But then, in the very next scene, the awkward is taken to a whole new level with Carradine, semi-nude, dancing around in just his Frankenstein mask and some tight black undies. It’s a scene that is already completely awkward – all of the racers and their navigators are completely naked getting massages after the first leg of the race. There are also some boobies, and a kind of side-bush at one quick glance. They add to the charm of the movie, but date it – obviously – but no more than the exceedingly ridiculous clothing choices do. Some scenes are so cheesy, such as death scenes, and the effects are decent for the year it was made. The movie is quite hilarious and a fun watch. Stallone is odd to look at, just because it’s when he pre-face lift, so it is quite an odd sight for someone of my age, who only ever sees his super stretched out face. Sylvester Stallone and David Carradine are both young and amazing in this movie. We get to watch 5 cars drive across the USA, racking up points – like you always dream of doing in your own car.

Innocent bystanders are worth points – depending on their age and gender. Jesus Chrysler, I'd almost rate this 6/10.A movie that has been parodied or referenced hundreds of times that follows a “Death Race” across the United States. This movie may be inspired by 'the Cars that ate Paris' (Weir, 1974) and seemed to have inspired 'Carmageddon' (VG) and Mad Max of course. Good for Paul Bartel that he made Death Race 2000 before George Miller made Mad Max (1978), because it would have been a completely obsolete cartoon otherwise: something like Evil Knievel vs Dick Dastardly.

Imagine the American president has a summer house in Peking, or driver Mathilda the Hun has a nazi-navigator Herman the German.ĭR2k was appropriately filmed by the great cinematographer Tak Fujimoto (Badlands, Silence of the lambs, Sixth Sense, and last but not least Ferris Bueller's day off). But in a more thoroughly humorous way than e.g. I get the impression that most of it is just a glorification of violence. It is more than questionable if the story is really about the fear of America becoming that chauvinistic and drenched in bloodlust. And fat chance the uncut version will be banned where I live.

Luckily there was room in the rating for some graphical splatter and nudity, which is why this has become a cult movie. And retrospectively one of his best roles, besides 'First Blood' and 'Rocky'. Add some black humor and non-existing emotions and you have Death Race 2000: the obscure cult flick in which Sly gets slapped around some as driver Machine-Gun Joe Viterbo. The acting in this supposed SF (caricatures of the immoral society of the future) is absolutely horrible (apart from Carradine and Griffeth). Everything seems 2 B possible: ethical correct splatter comedies? You've got it. It is unprobable to say the least: 'Frankenstein' as the embodiment of national virtue? Nice thought over a dose of mescaline maybe. 'Death Race 2000' is a disconcerting smithereen job, but also fun. 'Mad Max' meets the 'Running Man' and they both drive over miss Daisy. Death Race 2000 is set in the near future where the ultimate sporting event is the deathrace where pedestrians are run down for points.
